Random Post
For my first random post, I would like to share with you a historic moment that happened lately in Israel- The formation of the government. Israel was under a political crisis that inflicted four elections in the country in less than two years. This is something that has never happened before and I hope that will never happen again. The ending Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a record of 12-year rule under this position. Finally, after four elections, Israel was able to swear in a new government. The new prime minister elected is Naftali Bennett, who vowed to chart a new course aimed at healing the country’s divisions and restoring a sense of normalcy. Bennett will serve as a prime minister for the first two years, followed by the centrist Yair Lapid who was a driving force behind the coalition. The new government will also work with President Biden to strengthen ties with Arab states.
The biggest change that will happen will be felt domestically as the new government is trying to “heal” from the divisions in Israeli society between Jews and Arabs that opened up during the Netanyahu years. As Bennet stated: “The government will work for all the Israeli public. Religious, secular, ultra-Orthodox and Arab without exception, as one.” Despite the difficulties and conflicts with the Palestinians in Gaza Strip that lies on the border with Israel, Netanyahu has made many efforts to strengthen peace with Arab countries in the middle east, and has indeed succeeded in the task. Netanyahu expressed a historic moment when a year ago, he signed a peace agreement with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan. On the other hand, making peace with the Palestinians in Gaza Strip at the moment seems like something impossible, despite attempts and efforts, since the Strip is controlled by Hamas which is a terrorist organization that aims to destroy the State of Israel and opposes any possible peace agreement. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the reasons that Israel couldn’t build a government since Israel is a democratic country, and many people have different points of view especially regarding this issue.
As an Israeli citizen, it is hard to tell whether the new government will be better or not but all I can say is that I hope that one day, more attempts for peace will be held between Israel and Arab nations, and citizens will get the right to live equally in peace.
I don't know much about Israel's politics, but I hope this new government will help forge peace for its citizens. It seems this new government is taking the first steps in making this happen. I hope the long standing issues and conflicts could be resolved.
ReplyDeleteHi Mor, thank you for sharing Israel's current political circumstance. I do feel that you are deeply concerned with the current situation and I wish the new government could take a step forward to healing the problems in Israel long before he came to the position.

DeleteI thought your post was super informative. It's not biased like some of the article titles in the media. It's unfortunate that people can be so filled with hate and are unwilling to cooperate. I hope that the new government will take more steps in the right direction and mitigate the damages.
ReplyDeleteHi Mor, this was a very informative post and on a topic that I did not know much about. It is good that you picked a topic that meant something to you and even affected your life. I know there are still current issues, but I hope that they will be quelled soon.
ReplyDeleteHello Mor, recently I've been happy to see some attempts from Israel and Arab countries to establish normal diplomatic relations; especially coming from an aviation industry insider, I was excited to see airlines such as flydubai, Emirates, and Qatar Airways to launch direct flights from their home countries to Tel Aviv. I know it is rather ignorant to ask "why can't we just live in peace together" because all the history and politics are much more complicated than one would think, but I really hope to see the day when humans stop hurting each other for insubstantial things such as land, money, and resources.
ReplyDeleteThis was a super interesting topic and is important to share! I'm glad you helped to give some perspective to me and hopefully anyone who reads this. Great post!
